Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose and book yourvacation home:
- Choose vacation week and budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Classy King 583, Studio Standard has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your group.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
